Wise words from a 2nd generation wine maker, Randy Pitts of small family business Harvest Moon Estate & Winery. ”This is always the length of time red wine must spend in the barrel, in early California, French and even Roman times.”. The conversation twisted and turned a few times during our tasting. He offered valuable advice for NOT drinking 13.9% or 14.1% wines (google it). Even offered a few intriguing conspiracy theories, but his commitment to making great wine was the baseline of our discussion. ”The barrel sellers don’t like me very much. I don’t buy new barrels. When the big wineries are done with their oak, I am just about ready to use them. As a small business, you have to differentiate”. If you like unique, check out Harvest Moon.
