OK, so I’m easily amused. But I’m not the only one. When informed that we could have any image we wanted appear in the foam of our cappuccino, I wasn’t the only one giddy as a kid. Check out these super-awesome coffees, courtesy Empire State South in midtown Atlanta.

PS- have your own interesting coffee shots? Post them here!

Looks like Loss Cat is back in action in Inman Park (Taken with instagram)

I’m soooo excited about this, I can’t even speak! Spoiler alert: It’s not a real missing cat poster, but if you don’t know that it pulls at all sorts of heartstrings and funnybones as you read about this dirty, medicine needing cat with “not tags” and who “Does not call when come.” It’s one of the viral works of Atlanta-based artist R. Land, whose distinctive surrealistic pop art makes the city more interesting. BTW- my favorite poster of his has always been the one for “Yuppie Shitoles.”

Mutiny Now!

Like coffee, books, art and music? Then Denver’s Mutiny Now!, located on South Broadway St., is the place for you.

This store is combination of such unique and interesting things, but a definite highlight is the display of owner Jack Jensen’s original, and somewhat controversial artwork. Jensen’s “Pop Art Oil” paintings are colorful and fun, and make statements at local Denver politics, particularly counter attacks to the local media for their negative publicity regarding the South Broadway Street area of town.

Jensen also features other local artists, and has a fantastic collection of used books and record albums, all of which he is highly knowledgeable and eager to discuss while serving you a selection from his delicious espresso bar. Jensen proudly boasts that he serves coffee without the “next” attitude, and even has a sign that reads “be nice or leave.”

Getting creepy at the Denver Airport.

Traveling for business oftentimes means spending a lot of time in airports. And, airports for the most part are pretty boring places, filled with hordes of scurrying people, and overpriced food and shops. There is one airport that always stands out in my mind, however, and not for anything truly significant other than the artwork it boasts.

On permanent display at the Denver International Airport is some of the most unusual painted wall murals I have ever seen.  Located on the hall to the West Baggage Claim is “Children of the World Dream Peace” by artist Leo Tanguma. The airport’s website gives very little information about it, except “A few fanciful conspiracy theories have been generated by this artwork, none of which were intended by the artist.”

The murals depict a scary looking Nazi-style man stabbing a dove with a very large machete. Happy children and rainbows surround the man. While I have no doubt it is symbolic of peace, I can honestly say that I don’t get it.  But, I believe you’ll agree …. It sure is weird!
