Colonel Bruce Hampton is an Atlanta Rock staple.  I checked him out recently at the Five Spot in Little Five Points.  Tom Speed describes The Colonel’s musical approach “Over the years he served as a conduit for avant-garde interpretations of jazz and bluegrass and blues, the pure forms of American music thrown into a blender and poured into a steaming chalice of strangeness.”  Since he hit the scene in 1963, he has shared the stage with pretty much everyone.  The Colonel has also dabbled in film, poetry, writing and loves to display his knack for Astrology on unprepared interviewers.  Check out his official site and make a point of seeing a nearby show.

By Jarrett Bellini

To say I was looking for the real New Orleans is perhaps an unfair statement, considering that Bourbon Street, despite all of its annoyances, is just as real as anything else in the Crescent City. But for music and culture, it just wasn’t the New Orleans I was looking for.  Read More
